5 Tips For Getting Perfect Skin This Fall

Posted by Anita Sun

The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing, and that can only mean one thing: fall is officially upon us! So many things change in the fall; we switch from flip-flops to Ugg boots, from iced coffee to hot apple cider, and from long summer days at the beach to long, chilly nights spent in front of the fire.

Fall. is. AWESOME.

And just like we change up our coffee selection and our wardrobes to match the season, if we want to continue rocking a killer complexion, we need to change up our skincare, too.

Here are five tips for getting perfect skin this fall:

Pumpkin isn’t just for your lattes

Fall is the time for pumpkin everything: pumpkin patches, pumpkin carving, pumpkin pie. And, of course, we can’t forget autumn’s quintessential accessory: the pumpkin spice latte.

But pumpkins can do more than get you in the Halloween spirit or deliver your fall-themed caffeine fix. It can also give your skin a serious boost.

Pumpkin is an incredible enzymatic exfoliant. The pumpkin enzymes dissolve dead skin cells and stimulate cell turnover, which will leave you with a smoother, younger-looking complexion - and will also allow your other products to penetrate on a deeper level, boosting efficacy.

Pumpkin is also rich in vitamins like Vitamin C, which will brighten the skin, boost collagen production, and protect from free radical damage.

So keep drinking your pumpkin spice lattes - but if you want perfect skin this fall, make sure you give your skin a healthy shot of pumpkin, too.

Autumn is the perfect time for reverse the damage from summer

If you spent all summer laying on the beach and enjoying the sunshine, kudos to you. But even if you were super disciplined about sun protection (which we hope you were!), chances are you might have some lingering summer skin damage.

Too much sun can wreak havoc on your skin, causing a ton of issues like dark spots, dullness, dryness, and fine lines and wrinkles. Too much fun in the sun? Not too much fun for your skin.

Thankfully, fall is the perfect time for damage control and taking care of any lingering summer skin issues.

Dealing with dark spots? Look for a vitamin C serum to lighten the dark spots and even out skin tone. Skin looking a little lackluster? Try a brightening treatment (like the DERMOVIA Lace Your Face Brightening Bearberry) to give your complexion the boost it needs. Summer got you feeling dried out? Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, a humectant that will bind moisture to the skin.

If your skin is a little worse for wear after summer, no worries - autumn is the perfect time to clean it up.

Your skin is thirsty - so make sure you give it what it needs

As the air outside gets colder, it also gets drier. Which means that your super lightweight summer moisturizer, which worked like a charm in the hot, humid air probably isn’t going to cut it anymore.

As the air gets drier, your skin gets drier right along with it. So if you want to keep your skin happy, healthy, and looking its best through the fall, give it what it needs - a nice boost of hydration.

As the temperature drops, switch to a thicker moisturizer or a facial oil to give your skin the extra hydration it needs to survive the elements. And avoid any cleansers, soaps, or products that can dry out the skin - the weather will manage that perfectly well on its own.

Warm things up

When the temperature starts to get chillier, you naturally want to warm up - that’s why fall is the perfect time for getting your sweater-and-latte on. But you know what else is great to warm up in the fall?

Your skin.

Warming treatments not only feel great on chilly autumn days - they also can help open your pores, allowing for faster penetration and absorption of the treatment, which leads to better results.

So this fall, when you feel the urge to curl up with a warm cup of tea, curl up with a warming skin treatment, too. Your skin will thank you.

Don’t skip the SPF

As summer transitions to fall, long, sunny days spent outside give way to shorter, less sunny days with more time spent indoors. But just because you - and the sun - aren’t outside 24/7 doesn’t mean you should slack on your sun protection.

Summer, Spring, Winter, or Fall - your skin can suffer sun damage no matter what the season. Which is why it’s so important to protect your skin in all weather conditions. Make sure you wear at least SPF30 - no matter what the weather - to make sure you’re protected.

With these skin care tips, you’re well on your way to getting the perfect skin this fall. So get out there and enjoy the season!
