When Your Big Day Is Right Around The Corner: Must-have Skin Care Tips For Brides-to-be

Posted by Anita Sun

Since summer is such a hot season for weddings, we can write a post on how to get your skin ready for the big day: what to do three months out, what to do the week before, what to do the day before, etc.

Summer is officially here, and with it brings warmer temperatures, longer days, and… WEDDINGS!

Summer is one of the most popular times of the year for weddings, and with good reason: the sunshine, the pleasant weather, and the longer daylight areas make it a prime time to get hitched.

If you’re the bride-to-be, you want your day to be perfect: perfect weather, perfect dress, perfect ceremony… and of course, perfect skin.

If your big day is just around the corner, here are a few must-have skin care tips for brides to be to give you the flawless wedding complexion you deserve:

Give Your Treatments And Products A Test Run Long Before The Wedding

Many brides, in the name of perfect skin, are tempted to try out a slew of new treatments and products before the big day. But changing your skincare routine and introducing new ingredients into your regimen days before your wedding can be a recipe for disaster.

The last thing you want is to find yourself dealing with a skin reaction before your big day. Even if your skin isn’t super sensitive, a harsh chemical peel or a new ingredient your skin isn’t used to can cause redness, irritation, peeling - not exactly the look you’re going for.

So, if you want to avoid wearing your veil all day to shield wedding guests from your skin reaction, make sure you give any treatments or products you’re thinking about using a test run well before the wedding - a few months out is a good rule of thumb. That way, if your skin reacts negatively, you have plenty of time to repair it before it’s time to walk down the aisle.

Want The Perfect Bridal Glow? Try Vitamin C

One of the most common things you’ll hear people say about brides is “She looked so beautiful - she was absolutely glowing!” And while we’re sure a lot of that has to do with the happiness of the day, let’s be real… some of that glow is coming from product.

Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients on the market if you want your skin to brighten your skin and glow from within on the big day. Vitamin C will not only give an overall brightening effect to the skin, it will also help to lighten any dark spots, even out the skin tone, and boost collagen for a firmer skin tone.

If you’re not already using Vitamin C, look for a Vitamin C serum (like OLEHENRIKSEN’s Truth Serum) and use every day in the month leading up to the wedding. Then, on the big day, use DERMOVIA Lace Your Face Brightening Bearberry to give your face the extra brightening boost you need to nail that bridal glow.

Take A Deep Breath and Destress

A wedding is a joyful event, but if you’re the bride, it can also be BEYOND stressful. Dealing with family, coordinating with all the vendors, fighting with your fiance over the reception playlist (if they play “Cotton Eyed Joe”, you swear, you’re calling off the wedding!)... all the stress can start to add up.

And when you’re stressed on the inside, it’s going to show up on the outside: on your face.

Too much stress is no good for your complexion. When your body is under stress, it releases a hormone called cortisol, which wreaks havoc on the skin and can cause everything from breakouts, dryness, excess oil, wrinkles… you name it, stress will probably cause it.

That’s why it’s SO important to take a deep breath, relax, and take care of yourself in the middle of all the wedding chaos. The less stress you feel, the less cortisol your body will produce - and the less complexion issues you’ll face on the big day.

Make time for self care ritual in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Schedule a massage. Take a bath and indulge in some aromatherapy (a few drops of lavender essential oil in your bathwater and the Lace Your Face Calming Chamomile are a match made in heaven!). When you feel stress starting to overwhelm you, close your eyes and breathe deeply until the moment passes.

Remember, less stress = better skin.

Make Hyaluronic Acid Your New BFF

Now, your current BFF is probably busy playing Maid of Honor, so before your wedding, it’s time to make a new BFF - hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it binds moisture to the skin. We’re born with a TON of hyaluronic acid in our skin and it’s what gives babies that plump, dewy look we’re all dying for in adulthood. But as we get older, our bodies produce less and less hyaluronic acid, making our skin look dull and dry and leading to all sorts of fun things like deep lines and wrinkles.

But thankfully, that plump, dewy, hydrated look is just a product or two away. Adding hyaluronic acid topically binds moisture to the skin and can turn back the clock in terms of aging. And while you’ll never have the to-die-for complexion you see on a cherub-faced toddler, the right products (like Skin Inc’s Hyaluronic Acid serum) will get you pretty darn close.

Keep An Emergency Kit On Hand On The Big Day

When the big day actually arrives, you’ll have a slew of people to help you get ready and make sure your complexion looks flawless. But your beauty crew isn’t going to stick around through the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and after-party, so if you want to keep that flawless look for the entire evening, you’ll need an emergency stash.

Blotting papers (like the Green Tea Blotting Linens from boscia) will help control oil and shine as you groove on the dance floor. Rosewater spray (like Fresh's Rose Floral Toner) will keep your skin hydrated and refreshed long after you cut the cake. And don’t forget about after the wedding! You - and your skin - will be exhausted, so make sure to wrap up your night by wrapping your face in your favorite Lace Your Face treatment mask!

Your wedding is one of the most beautiful times of your life. And thanks to these bridal skincare tips, it will also be the time in your life you have the most beautiful complexion.
